Less Sauvage Than Others?

Thinking about the relation between modern and premodern eras and the role that archaeology and anthropology play in constructing our understanding of history and our position within it, it is also possible to imagine how “our time” will be viewed by civilizations in the distant future. Contemporary plastic bottles were appropriated and recreated in ceramic for this exhibition, one of human kind’s oldest building materials, in an attempt to create a moment where time becomes abstracted, warped and elongated. This effort is complimented by the fact that the installation was presented in a white cube, a modern invention that historically is used to neutralize the surrounding infuence of space and time on the objectifed content. Along with the ceramic vessels sprawling the foor like the aftermath of a tailgate, this stage included a large pot of tea and steam machines, flling the space with something like a cloud, rejecting the visibility of the fully windowed entry wall and distorting the name of the show.
